JUDE Law claims he is "€œin love" with Robert Downey Jr. The actor brushed off reports he has reconciled with ex-girlfriend Sienna Miller by insisting he only has eyes for his Sherlock Holmes co-star.

Speaking at the film's premiere in London'€™s Leicester Square, Jude pointed at Robert and said: "The only person I'™m in love with is sitting on my left. I am here on a night out with the boys.

day late & a dollar short here, i know. here's yesterday's shoe, & i'll be posting today's sometime later this evening.

i love the olsen twins with reckless, shameful abandon. even when mary-kate was dressing like a blind hobo i was defending her. it's a sickness, & i accept that. despite my love, i have to admit that the olsens have struggled to develop brands that really connect with the buyers, largely because (i feel) they didn't spend enough time trying to craft a signature look/feel for themselves. elizabeth & james, however (which is one of the olsens' three clothing lines and specializes in very high quality & sophisticated ware) is really shaping up to be a strong brand. i particularly love the line's shoes. there's always something unique & ahead of the curve going on, & the above layla sandal is the perfect example of that. the bold, prominent mosaic patterns surround the cutouts is such a beautiful accent. these are statement shoes that don't go overboard; the single toe strap, the zip up the back, the pattern on the heel are all very complimentary to the over all design, but none of it is over-the-top. these are shoes you wear & not the other way around.

This is what I serious cannot wait for. Sherlock Holmes.
Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law. How can it be anything BUT epic?

Also, and unrelated to any kind of self-implosive internalised squeeing fangasm I might be having over Robert Downey Jr the impending release of the aforementioned movie (and believe me, I am), I have completed my [info]yuletide first draft, it is ridic long and currently with my lovely beta. I finished it Saturday night AND THEN JUMPED AROUND THE LIVING ROOM WITH GLEE**. Neat thing to do considering I had a bit of a coughing phlegm-monster lurking in my chesticles.

** Think: Gollum at the end of Return of the King when he's finally got his paws on the precious in Mount Doom. Yeah, it was pretty much carbon copy that.

livejournal is removing the unspecified option for the gender field [15 Dec 2009|05:43pm]

futureperfect
[ mood | angry ]
[ music | Bear McCreary - Something Dark is Coming | Powered by Last.fm ]

AS PER ETA AT THE BOTTOM, LJ BACKPEDALLED, THANK CHRIST.

Jesus fucking christ, LJ, what the actual fuck. I mean. Seriously? NO, SERIOUSLY?

From [info]synecdochic:

* Gender will be a mandatory field at account creation, and it will be able to appear public on one's profile. (I can't tell if people with existing gender specification will be defaulted to "nobody can see it" or "everybody can see it".) (Subsequent changelog reading indicates that the public specificity has since been removed. It is unknown whether this is to require public specificity in the future or if it will remain private.)

* LiveJournal is removing the Unspecified option for the gender field. That's right: you get to be male or female. Period. That's it. (Source.)

If this pisses you off as much as it pisses me off, go to Edit Profile and select Unspecified for your gender option. Then, go to http://www.livejournal.com/contact/?dept=feedback and politely register your displeasure. (The people who read and process Feedback are not the people who make the decisions. They are often the people who are yelling internally about the decisions.)

(This will likely take place at the next code push, which given LJ's history will be either this Thursday or next, so spread the word fast, especially to the genderqueer community. After that point, you will no longer be able to pick "Unspecified" as your gender.)

Here is what I wrote; copy and paste as much as you'd like:

Hi there,

I read http://community.livejournal.com/changelog/7932846.html and subsequent commits with dismay, particularly the part where gender is now a) a required field and b) a binary option. Gender is not a binary; there are many people who do not identify as either male or female.

LiveJournal always received high marks from the transgender and genderqueer community because it didn't require people to specify, and didn't require people to choose either/or, when it came to the gender field. LJ also received heavy pressure to offer an "Other" option in addition to the "Unspecified"; you can read the early history of the "gender_petition" community for details. (http://community.livejournal.com/gender_petition/38651.html and earlier entries)

I am particularly dismayed by this change, because LiveJournal under both Danga and Six Apart said, repeatedly, that a). the Gender field would never be a mandatory field to fill out, and b). if it became so, the options would be expanded to include "Other". (http://community.livejournal.com/feedback/9967.html)

A simple interest search on "transgender" or "genderqueer" will illustrate how many people are aware of this issue, and you can review suggestions going back to 2001 (http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/36453.html) about it.

Transgender and genderqueer individuals experience discrimination every day when they are forced to identify themselves with the gender binary when it doesn't apply to them. Please do not contribute to this oppression.

Please keep the "Unspecified" option for gender, and add an "Other" option, if you are making the gender field mandatory. Please do not contribute to the oppression of others. While I recognize that having a user's gender makes advertisers happier, collecting revenue at the expense of human suffering is not the action of a company I want to do business with.

Best,
[Your Name Here]

To also reach someone who's higher up the food chain than the poor staff members who have to read and reply to Feedback, also email anjelika@livejournalinc.com who is Anjelika, GM of US operations.

The problem with LJ is that even though they keep on doing all this awful, stupid shit, most of fandom is going to stay here, and until my fandoms hit a tipping point and move to DW, I am going to be spending most of my time here, still. That makes me sad bc I'd love my DW to be more active. :(

ETA: [info]fleurdeliser received a reply from Anjelika:
hi Julie,

thank you for your feedback.
However, the code update that you refer to is not live and did not have any chance to go live. That was a beta release, we always push code to beta to see if everything works correctly. In many cases it does not and we either fix bugs or pull the code from the final release plan.
We were going to add a gender field to the sign up user flow, which is fine, but by mistake it became a mandatory "female/male" field for everyone. This is why this is not going live. And this is what beta releases are for, to see problems and solve them before any user faces a problem.

I would appreciate if you share this information with your friends that are also concerned. I am sorry that you were misinformed.

..Kind of feels like backpedalling, but if it is? It means they're listening to the userbase again. IDK. Either way... Don't be a fail!cake, LJ. >:(

i am not a huge fan of viktor and rolf's s/s '09 shoe line, but i love, love, LOVE their 2010 collection, which the above crystal mesh platform sandal is from. the entire line is inspired by sexy women's lingerie, & while there are lots of flirty, girly pieces in different shades of blushes, i like the the shoes that call to mind fishnets & garters more. i'm a big fan of cage/netted heels; there's something very daring about them that i love. the crystal mesh sandal is in that vein, but also has a note of delicacy to it that i really, really like. i like the colour of the actual pump itself as well - the pearl tone goes perfectly against the stark black of the netting & the polished granite of the crystals themselves. very, very beautiful shoe.

so. some dude called james montgomery picked his top 25 favourite songs on 2009. the list is here. i pretty much disagree with everything on it, & it got me thinking that since this journal is largely music-related, i might put together some of my own year-end lists.

first, though, i wanna know what your favourite song(s) of 2009 were. any genre, any length, any kind of release. lay 'em on me!

i think golden goose must actually make their boots with solid gold, because no matter the size, material used, or where you buy them, they're always astronomically expensive. the above pair of boots from the brand's jessie series retails, at its cheapest, $1,225. :| that sort of knocks down the WOW factor for me, but even my emaciated bank account has to admit that this is a good-lookin boot. i find the classic western stitching particularly beautiful, and i like that someone is still making rough-and-tumble cowboy boots in dusty shades. the trend of polished mahogany coloured boots are cute, but sort of takes away from the folkloric vibe. these boots remind me of butch cassidy, or jesse james. very fun.

so. i wasn't going to break out the loubs until later, but these ones are just so fun, & have the added bonus of reminding me a great deal of my bb [info]layaround, who is every bit as spunky, colourful, & divine as the above pair of shoes. christian louboutin is my favourite shoe designer. he is known for redefining the classic, chic, & timeless pump, but he has a playful side the can tend toward the avant guard. this particular pair falls somewhere in between, & while i've never exactly been a fan of the peep-toe paired with the sling back (i think one or the other is pretty provocative enough), the sheer force of this shoe makes it work. these are party shoes, & they would be pretty great ones to have in on hand in one's closet.

this mui mui platform bootie reminds me of alice in wonderland for some reason. there's a very whimsical vibe to it that i really dig, but i wont pretend that the actual structure of the shoe isn't a little off-putting. if this were just a plain black bootie, i definitely wouldn't be a fan, which just goes to show how much a print can elevate a design. i also love how the print extends to the platform & the sturdy, chunky heel. it adds a feel of playful dress up to a pretty basic shoe. it'd be pretty neat-o to walk around in a pair of these.

Warning: this video may contain images that are disturbing to some viewers.

TAC Christmas Campaign 2009 (20 Year Retrospective)

On December 10th 1989 the first TAC commercial went to air. In that year the road toll was 776; by last year it had fallen to 303.

A five minute retrospective of the campaigns produced by the TAC over the last 20 years has been compiled. The montage features iconic scenes and images from commercials that have helped change they way we drive, all edited to the moving song Everybody Hurts by REM.

This campaign is a chance to revisit some of the images that have been engraved on our memories, remember the many thousands of people who have been affected by road trauma and remind us all that for everyones sake; please, drive safely.

blakroc by the black keys & various. [07 Dec 2009|05:35pm]

BLAKROC,
THE BLACK KEYS FT. EVERYONE

blakroc, by the black keys et. al.
the legend goes that several years ago someone passed damon dash an album by the black keys & dash, upon listening to the ohio based duo addictive blues rock, became obsessed. he quickly got in contact with the musicians & proposed a hip-hop/R&B project. the black keys said yes & because the project was being overseen by dash, a whole slew of the biggest names in hip-hop showed up to play.

this album is incredible. i spent a lot of my last teens & early twenties on the fringe of the oakland, ca underground hip-hip scene, & even more time trying to convince my jack johnson-loving, ganga stuffed mates to give the genre a chance. if i had this record at the time, it probably would have been a much, much easier task. it manages to be a R&B starter album without pulling any punches. there's some big names on here (mos def, NOE, raekwon), & every song is catchy & rooted in that same dirty, crunchy blues-rock that the black keys are so known for.

very, very VERY highly recommended. enjoy.

ALSO!!! current.com's blog has a list of the best xmas songs of 2009 (so far). check it out: http://blogs.current.com/music/2009/12/07/best-christmas-songs-of-2009-so-far/

i love this mossimo ballet flat. a lot of people don't like bold prints, but i think having it on a pair of shoes is the perfect way to incorporate that flashiness into an outfit. these shoes literally go with everything i wear, the classic shape of the shoe is flattering on any size foot, & can go with dresses/skirts, & anything width of pant leg; I tend to pair them with dark-wash cigarette jeans. beyond that, they're really, REALLY comfortable, & perfect for wearing around the house if you're like me & not super stoked on being barefoot but don't exactly dig doing house work in heels. they're available through target.com for $10, or you can get a pair in zebra, pewter, bronze, red patent, & black patent.

Robert Downey Jr (as TONY STARK) illustrates my currently good feeling towards LJ.

LJ has been holding my comments hostage and releasing them only under heavy negotiation in ones and twos all day. SEE THIS, LJ? THIS IS MY "GIVE ME MY COMMENTS OR I'LL PUNCH YOU IN THE SACK" FACE. >:O!

However, checking the support board I see that I'm not the only one feeling like giving LJ a good sack-punching. So that's something at least. That's like, borderline schadenfreude, isn't it? It's not that I'm taking pleasure in others' misfortunes, but I'm sure as hell pleased they're in the same boat as me.

OH NO, IT'S MY LONELY GOD COMPLEX TALKING. BRB TIME TRAVELLING TO A FIXED POINT IN TIME TO FIX LJ ONCE AND FOR ALL.

...Yeah, idek.

in general, i either love or hate everything by united nude. their winter '09 collection is pretty in line with that. a lot of the collection shoots, i think, for something impressive but falls just short. there are a few gems, though, starting with the patchwork series. it starts with this black & beige version, my favourite of the bunch, though there is a black mix, a burgundy mix, & bootie versions in black, silver, & the smaller version of the above black & beige.

i love this shoe because it's sophisticated, but still quirky. i like the uneven top line, the imperfect shape of the diamonds, & even the black and beige combo, which i think can be really hard to pull off. all of this paired with the classic shape of the boot & the elegant heel. loooooove!

the white version of the wedge boots i posted yesterday in a US size 8. buy it now for $560 (they retail at over a grand), or make an offer. $30 s/h, no returns, 100% positive feedback seller. 5 days left to bid. they are so fucking pretty....
• a pair of the suede buckle boots from fall of last season in a US size 7, chocolate brown. starting bid at $269 (retailed at $1,095). $10 s/h, no returns, 100% postitive feedback seller. 3 days left to bid.
• same style boots, but in black leather, US size 10. Bidding starts at $82.66 (GBP £49.99). $16 (£10) s/h, no returns, 100% positive feedback (though they've only sold one other item). 6 days left to bid.
• beige & black cone heel (which was my personal favourite of balenciaga s/s season) in a US size 7. bidding is at $275 (retailed at over $600). $10 s/h, no returns, 100% feedback seller. 1 day left to bid.

So this weekend among the movies I watched were three Russell Crowe ones: Master & Commander (again!), A Beautiful Mind (yes, two movies with Russell Crowe & Paul Bettany, what of it? If I could shoehorn Robert Downey Jr into either of those movies they would be BRILLIANT!) and Gladiator (an all-time favourite), and I think I’ve figured out what it is about Rusty that appeals to me - apart from the fact that he’s a little bit older, and older men are by far my crazy alien sex pollen when it comes to dudes, and apart from general all-round looks what I occasionally find pleasing when he's in good shape, and apart from the fact he can actually act - it’s his voice.

He has one of those lovely deep, rumbly voices that I’ve ~always enjoyed. On all levels. Unf.

Now, back to my [info]yuletide fic.
